What is your Anti-Drug? “No Alcohol No Drugs” (NAND) is a collaborative program composed of parents, teachers, administrators, students, business people, and community leaders who are united to reduce the alcohol and drug abuse among Fort Wayne Community Schools students. The NAND program began in Southwest Allen County Schools and spread from there to Northwest Allen County Schools and East Allen County Schools. Fort Wayne Community Schools joins the other Allen County school corporations in the belief that we must promote a community culture that students within Fort Wayne Community Schools, and therefore, Wayne High School, will be alcohol and drug free.In early 2008 the principals of the six Fort Wayne Community Schools high schools signed an Administrator Memorandum of Understanding in which they noted their pledge to “support every effort to safeguard the wellbeing of students and create learning environments that support healthy students and families.” A program such as NAND “promises to have a lasting and positive impact on the learning environments…and will support our at-risk youth as they face multiple challenges and pressures to engage in risky, self-destructive behaviors.” Wayne students, through Generals Resisting Alcohol and Drugs, are assisting their peers by reminding them that drinking and driving don’t mix and that our Wayne students can go far by supporting their individual anti-drugs. NAND asks “What’s your anti-drug?” Perhaps your anti-drug is music, photography, being with your family, participating in sports, shopping, or hanging out with friends. What ever turns you on, please remember that drugs and alcohol move you further away from that activity or interest. |
